When to Buy a Wedding Dress

One of the most important parts of wedding planning is buying your dress on time. Many brides want to start dress shopping immediately after getting engaged, which, honestly, we can’t recommend enough. Regardless of the date your big day is set for, it’s never too early to start your search! Here are a few things to consider before you begin wedding dress shopping:

Design Time

First things first, narrowing thousands of options down to finding “the one” takes enough time on its own, but it’s important to remember that wedding dresses are high-quality garments custom-made to the closet standard size just for you. Accounting for the time it takes for your designer to sew your dress, in addition to whatever shipping delays may occur, you’re looking at a wait time of about four to five months to receive your dress after you order it.

Alterations

Once your dress arrives, it’s time for alterations. The alterations process can take anywhere between 4 to 6 weeks, during which you’ll need a few fittings to ensure your gown fits flawlessly. This process is a necessary step to creating the bridal look of your dreams, after all, this is the most important dress of your life. In total, you should schedule 6 to 7 months to get your gown aisle-ready.

Sales

Lastly, a helpful tip to consider is sales! Many bridal boutiques offer sales in mid-July and December, so if you’re hoping to score a deal on a beautiful wedding dress, keep an eye on your local shops for discounts during these times of year.
